Young people are leading the social movement for climate action on a scale never seen before and they are not stopping until adults do more to address the heating planet. Xiye Bastida, a 17-year-old climate activist leading efforts in the US and across the world, will open Grounded Summit.
The climate crisis is affecting every country on every continent, right now. Weather is more extreme, sea levels are rising, greenhouse gas emissions are the highest they’ve ever been. What does this mean for our future? Satya Triphathi from the United Nations along with other climate leaders will dive deeper into the reality check of the state of the planet.
Arctic permafrost is starting to melt at unprecedented rates, releasing CO2 and methane into the atmosphere. Continued melting would be disastrous. Olya Irzak, founder of Frost Methane Labs, will share her solution focused on mitigating climate change by targeting methane release and the reduction of emissions. Other solutionists exploring critical Arctic-saving solutions to be announced.
Paul Stamets is considered a leader in fungi: habitat, medicinal use, and production. He lectures extensively to deepen the understanding and respect for the organisms that exist under every footstep. Paul is the author of six books, has discovered numerous species of psilocybin mushrooms.
Xiye Bastida is a 17-year-old indigenous climate activist based in New York. She is a recipient of the Spirit of the United Nations Award, an organizer with Fridays for Future, and a member of Peoples Climate Movement-NY’s core committee.
Paul Hawken is an environmentalist, entrepreneur, author and activist who has dedicated his life to environmental sustainability and changing the relationship between business and the environment. He is one of the environmental movement’s leading voices.
Benji Backer is the President and Founder of the American Conservation Coalition. He is a fellow at the Chapman Center in Seattle and on the Advisory Board of the Wisconsin Conservative Energy Forum. He has written for CNBC, The Hill, Washington Examiner, and many other publications.
Stephan Nicoleau is the Managing Director of Full Cycle, a private equity firm that invests in companies harnessing proven technologies that accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. He was part of the founding team that grew Coalition Development from a start-up to a $50 million revenue firm in just four years.
Mr. Tripathi is the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Head of New York Office at UN Environment. He served with the UN since 1998 in key positions in Europe, Asia and Africa in the areas of climate change, human rights, democratic governance and legal affairs.
